The Ranch Hand - Room Six

The Ranch Hand's room is appointed in our natural western style. It currently has two beds, although at one time it had only one. This room was shared by Sam and the beautiful Maria. Sadly, though, Maria left Sam one day. Took her magnificent steed and headed down to the river road. She didn't look back once - and neither did her horse. Beautiful Maria, half Maidu and half Miwok, left behind the two eagle walking sticks made by her grandfather, which convinces Sam that she will return.

Maria's picture hangs in the bath where Sam can greet her every day, and swear that he won't play so much poker (or at least not lose so often), or smoke too much, or cuss too loud. Sam closes his eyes - he can still smell her perfume. As he opens his eyes, Sam has to chuckle. He sees the missing drawer in the cabinet. It held Maria's diamond and gold nugget engagement ring, and other little treasures Sam had given her. The day Maria left; she took out the drawer, with all of its contents and chucked it off of the veranda and into the river. A practical woman, Sam is convinced that she did not toss the ring. Are you wondering about the picture above the cabinet? No, it is not Maria's horse, but it is Sam's horse Ace. And if you want to know why Ace is laughing - well it's because Ace is glad he is number one again - and it's just the guys again. The red rug between the beds? Yes, its Ace's blanket.
