The countryside surrounding the Sierra Nevada House is an exceptionally diverse and beautiful expanse of land, and it offers a variety of day trip excursion possibilities to help create a day full of romance and adventure. We are nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada foothills where green river valleys meet the granite slopes of the high country. And there are flavors and activities to excite the palate of every visitor.

El Dorado Winery AssociationWineries ~ Choose from a variety of award winning local vineyards, where you can leisurely stroll through vine covered grounds. Tour the barrel rooms and wine making facilities. Sample different varietals of high quality wines that are being compared to the Rhone Valley vintages of France. Picnic in comfort and natural beauty, surrounded by the vines that filled your bottle. Visit the El Dorado Winery Association.

Sutter's MillHistorical Sites ~ In 1848, gold was discovered less than a mile up the road from the Sierra Nevada House, and the Coloma Valley quickly became the heart of the California Gold Rush. The area also has a rich tradition of Native American history, and there are sites, museums, and lesser known gems for the serious and more casual history buff alike. Foot Paths ~ The Coloma Valley and surrounding El Dorado County are blessed with hundreds and hundreds of miles of easily accessed foot paths and hiking trails. Stroll along the river in front of the Inn and watch boaters and geese float by beyond the flower lined banks. Strap on sturdier shoes and head out into the steeper slopes and canyons to the east. Whatever your pace, there are a multitude of paths and trails to fit your mood.

Country Roads ~ If itineraries and plans aren't your cup of tea, head out in the car or on your bike and amble to nowhere at all along the quiet country roads that head out in all directions from the Lodge. There are treasures and hidden beauties to be discovered no matter which way you choose to turn.
